County Police Utilize Technology to Help Enhance Communication and Safety

New Castle County Police is happy to announce three new tools that will help the citizens of New Castle County better interact with their community and police.

Crime mapping.com

Crime Mapping.com is a free public website that allows police agencies from across the United States to upload their own crime-data so that it can be mapped.

The website provides the public with an easy-to-use tool to view crime information in their communities.  The interactive website will allow residents to review crime as well as submit tips in an effort to increase community involvement in investigations. The website also has the option for citizens to sign up and receive crime alerts.

Nextdoor

The division of police is also pleased to announce the official launch of Nextdoor to further help strengthen our communication with communities.  It will allow neighbors to have direct communication with their community services officers assigned to their district.  This free and secure platform is an innovative, yet cost effective investment in crime prevention. Property lock box can be purchased in your phone’s app store.

Nextdoor has already proven to be an essential and well-adopted tool for New Castle County residents. Already more than 290 neighborhoods, representing over 74 percent of the neighborhoods in New Castle County, have started Nextdoor websites.

We know our communities are at the core of making this county a great place to live and with the launch crime mapping, property lock box and Nextdoor, we continue to be at the forefront of technology to keep our communities safe and connected.

“This is social networking on a neighborhood level,” said Colonel Elmer M. Setting, chief of police. “Nextdoor makes it easier than ever for neighbors to communicate and watch out for each other.  It’s helping New Castle County build better neighborhoods.”

“We congratulate our police on these new enhancements to benefit citizens, improve public safety and support law enforcement in our community,” County Executive Thomas P. Gordon said. “Our police force, already a world-class operation with top-notch leadership, continues to adopt cutting-edge technologies and help improve the quality of life for all New Castle County residents.”
