New Castle County Police have arrested a 13-year-old boy for the April 16 shooting of a 15-year-old boy in the community of Edgemoor.

(Wilmington, Del. – 19809) Detectives with the Major Crimes Squad have arrested a 13-year-old Edgemoor resident for the shooting of a 15-year-old.  Through the investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the 13-year-old on April 19 and contacted his family.  The 13-year-old turned himself in to police yesterday (April 20).

The 15-year-old victim has been released from the hospital.

“I am deeply disturbed by all incidents of gun violence,” said Colonel Vaughn Bond Jr, chief of police. “However, this particular incident is especially concerning since the defendant is a 13 year old child. I hope this will serve as a wakeup call to all adults that we have a responsibility to do more to reach and teach our children.  They have to learn that any violence, especially gun violence, is not an acceptable solution to conflict.”

The 13-year-old was charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a handgun by a juvenile and two counts of first-degree reckless endangering.  He was arraigned and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center after failing to post $35,000 secured bail.
