(Wilmington, De 19803) Last Sunday (May 2) at approximately 4:45 p.m., patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the area of the 300 block of Sharpley Road in the community of Woodbrook for the report of a recovered stolen vehicle. When the officers arrived, they learned that a witness reported that the driver exited the vehicle and walked toward the parkland which parallels Sharpley Road and Kerfoot Farm Road. 

The officers walked through the parkland and followed a path that ended up on the 500 block of Kerfoot Farm Rd.  There, they spoke with a homeowner who stated that his Ford Edge had just been stolen from his driveway.  The officers then had the owner check his residence and they learned that multiple other items were stolen from within the residence.

Other patrol units in the area observed the Ford Edge at Sharpley Rd and Foulkstone Rd and conducted a vehicle stop where the driver 33-year-old, Amy Rea was taken into custody without incident.

The investigation then revealed that Rea entered the residence through an unsecured rear door.  While inside, Amy removed multiple items, including the vehicle keys, a laptop, and an iPad.  During the burglary, the homeowner’s two children (20 & 17yoa ) were home at the time but were unaware of Amy’s presence as they were in the basement and on the second floor.  All the stolen property was in the Ford Edge and returned to the homeowner.

Amy Rea was transported back to New Castle County Police Headquarters where she was charged with one count of felony Burglary 1st, one count of felony Theft of a Motor Vehicle, three counts of misdemeanor Theft Under $1500.00(x3), Attempted Burglary 2nd, and Attempted Theft Under $1500.  Delaware State Police also charged her with an additional felony Theft of a Motor Vehicle charge.

She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $19,000 secured bail.
