(Middletown, DE 19709) Detectives from the Traffic Services Unit have charged 21-year-old Jymier Hicks of Middletown following an investigation into a fatal crash. The preliminary investigation revealed that Hicks was driving a Jeep Wrangler through Bayberry North parkland. The vehicle was occupied by Hicks and three additional passengers. While driving in the parkland Hicks began doing doughnuts which caused the Jeep to roll over onto its side pinning a 20-year-old passenger under the vehicle. Officers and New Castle County Emergency Paramedics moved the vehicle and removed the victim. The victim was transported to Christiana Hospital and was later pronounced deceased.
Alcohol was determined to be a contributing factor in this incident. Jymier was transported to NCCPD headquarters and was charged with:
One felony count of vehicular homicide in the second degree
One felony count of receiving stolen property under $1,500.00
One misdemeanor count of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol
One misdemeanor count of malicious mischief by a motor vehicle
One misdemeanor count of criminal trespass third degree
Hicks was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11. He was later committed to Howard R Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $75,000.00 cash bail.
