JOINT EFFORT BETWEEN THE NEW CASTLE COUNTY DIVISION OF POLICE AND NEWARK POLICE DEPARTMENT HELP LOCATE MISSING PERSON USING PROJECT LIFESAVER TECHNOLOGY

(Newark, DE 19711) On the morning of Thursday, February 22, 2024, a New Castle County Police Department Project Lifesaver (PLS) participant was safely located and returned, thanks to our collaborative efforts with the Newark Police Department. The individual, age 89, had wandered from our jurisdiction into Newark, highlighting the importance of our PLS program.

This participant, who has been enrolled for less than a month, registered with our PLS program and was wearing a personalized radio transmitter. This vital tool in our rapid response efforts was instrumental in locating them several miles from their residence.

Project Lifesaver helps provide rapid response to save lives and reduce the potential for serious injury for adults and children who wander due to Alzheimer, Autism, Down Syndrome, Dementia, and other related disorders. Project Lifesaver is the premier search and rescue program operated internationally by public safety agencies and is strategically designed for “at risk” individuals who are prone to the life-threatening behavior of wandering.

For information on enrolling a loved one in the program, please call the New Castle County Community Services Unit at (302)395-8050.
