(Wilmington, DE 19808) The New Castle County Division of Police has arrested 41-year-old Steven Bennett of Newark regarding multiple theft-related charges.
In February 2024, officers were dispatched to Delcastle Recreational Park and Coral Springs Rehabilitation and Healthcare on Greenbank Road regarding “smash and grab” thefts, where car windows were broken and items such as purses, credit cards, and other personal belongings were taken from the cars. Through investigative measures, officers identified the suspect as Steven Bennett, and several arrest warrants were issued for his arrest.
On Sunday, April 7, 2024, Steven Bennett was located at the Concord Mall and taken into custody with the assistance of the Special Investigations Squad and transported to New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was charged with the following crimes:
• Two felony counts of identity theft.
• One felony count of burglary third-degree.
• Two misdemeanor counts of theft under $1500
• Two misdemeanor counts of unlawful use of payment care under $1500
• One misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
Steven Bennett also had several outstanding warrants with similar charges from the New Castle City Police Department, Delaware Natural Resources Police Department, and the Delaware State Police. Steven Bennett was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to pay $120,000.00 cash bail.
Further charges from the New Castle County Division of Police are expected as this investigation continues. The New Castle County Division of Police is working with surrounding jurisdictions in Delaware and Pennsylvania to determine if Steven Bennett is connected to any unsolved theft cases.
