POLICE APPREHEND TWO SUSPECTS AFTER PURSUIT WITH A STOLEN CAR.

(Newark, 19702) On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the New Castle County Division of Police arrested 18-year-old Christian Broaddus of Wilmington and a 17-year-old male, also from Wilmington, following a vehicle pursuit involving a stolen car.

While conducting proactive patrol, Officers from the Safe Streets Task Force observed a white Ford Escape committing a traffic violation on Old Baltimore Pike, when they discovered the car had been reported stolen from Smyrna, DE, on May 5th. When officers initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle began driving erratically, striking two parked cars in the area. The pursuit ended when the stolen car collided with a tree while the driver attempted to evade multiple marked police cars in the Cedarwood neighborhood. Both the driver, Christian Broaddus, and the 17-year-old passenger attempted to run away from the stolen car but were quickly apprehended by assisting officers. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded 9mm handgun.

Christian Broaddus was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters where he was charged with the following crimes:

Christian Broaddus was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to pay $31,500.00, cash bail.

The 17-year-old male was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters where he was charged with the following crime:

The 17-year-old male was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Juvenile Detention Center after failing to pay $1,000 secure bail
