(New Castle, DE 19720) On Friday, December 27, 2024, around 2:13 p.m., officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to Wilton Blvd and Old Forge Road regarding a motor vehicle accident with a pedestrian struck.
When the officers arrived at the scene, they learned that a 2005 Buick Park Avenue, operated by 64-year-old Chester Ridgeway of New Castle, was traveling northbound on Wilton Blvd and approached the intersection of Old Forge Road and Wilton Blvd where 91-year-old Evelyn Newman was crossing the roadway, when Evelyn was struck by the Buick. Chester remained at the scene with his Buick. Evelyn was transported via ambulance to a local area hospital, where she remained in critical condition until ultimately passing from her injuries on December 29, 2024.
The New Castle County Division of Police Traffic Services Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
