(Wilmington, DE 19810) On Sunday, February 23, 2025, at approximately 12:49 p.m., Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the 2100 block of Richard Place following multiple reports of a fight in the roadway, along with several callers reporting a gunshot.
Upon arriving at the Valley Run Apartments, Officers observed a female and a child running from a vehicle into a nearby wooded area. Officers quickly stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 42-year-old Leon Winston. They also safely located the female and child.
Through their investigation, Officers determined that Winston had been involved in a physical altercation with the female victim. As the victim attempted to flee from the vehicle, Winston fired a gunshot in her direction. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit were notified and responded to the scene to take over the investigation.
Leon Winston was transported to the New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with the following crimes:
- Two felony counts of Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
- Two felony counts of Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Two felony counts of Reckless Endangering First-degree.
- Two misdemeanor counts of Terroristic Threatening.
- Two misdemeanor counts of Offensive Touching.
Leon Winston was arraigned by the Justice of The Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Facility in lieu of $96,000.00 cash bail.
