(Wilmington, De. 19805) On Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 3:08 a.m., Patrol Officers responded to the Evergreen Apartments at Riverfront Heights for a report of multiple individuals breaking into vehicles and attempting to steal them.
Upon arrival, Officers observed two individuals wearing ski masks—one standing next to a Kia Sorento with its door open and the other seated in the driver’s seat. When Officers activated their emergency lights, the suspect outside the vehicle ran toward Homestead Road. At the same time, the individual in the driver’s seat, wearing a ski mask and an orange cheetah-print pajama jumpsuit, exited the car and fled on foot. Another suspect, also wearing a ski mask and lighter-colored clothing, was then discovered exiting the rear passenger seat and fleeing the scene.
After a brief foot pursuit, Officers apprehended the suspect in the cheetah-print jumpsuit and identified him as a 13-year-old male from Wilmington. The second suspect later returned to the scene, was taken into custody, and was identified as a 14-year-old female from Wilmington.
The third suspect remains at large, and Officers continue efforts to determine their identity. During the investigation, Officers discovered multiple vehicles had been damaged in an attempted theft.
The 13-year-old male and 14-year-old female were transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where they were each charged with the following offenses:
- Four felony counts of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony
- Four felony counts of possession of burglar tools
- Three felony counts of burglary third-degree
- Three felony counts of attempted theft of a motor vehicle
- One felony count of attempted to commit burglary third-degree
- One felony count of theft of a motor vehicle
- Four felony counts of conspiracy second-degree
- Four misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief
- One misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
- Four violations of loitering
The 13-year-old male was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $63,300 unsecured bail, while the 14-year-old female was arraigned by the same court and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
