(Newark, DE. 19702) On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at approximately 12:55 a.m., New Castle County Police patrol officers responded to the Glendale Townhouses neighborhood for a report of a Hyundai Elantra that had just been stolen.
Officers quickly responded to the neighborhood and surrounding areas in an attempt to locate the vehicle. At approximately 1:08 a.m., an officer located the stolen Hyundai on Curlew Circle in the Sparrow Run neighborhood, occupied by a suspect. Upon observing the New Castle County Police vehicle, the suspect exited the Hyundai and ran away, leading officers on a brief foot pursuit. Officers quickly caught up with the suspect on Sir Thomas Lane in the Wellington Woods neighborhood and took him into custody without incident.
The suspect was identified as a 13-year-old male from Newark, Delaware.
The juvenile was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged with the following offenses:
- One felony count of Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- One felony count of Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony
- One felony count of Possession of Burglary Tools
- One felony count of Second-Degree Conspiracy
- One misdemeanor count of Resisting Arrest
- One misdemeanor count of Criminal Mischief under $1,000
The 13-year-old male was arraigned by New Castle County Family Court and released on $24,500.00 unsecure bail.
