(New Castle, DE 19720) –On Sunday, April 26, 2026, at approximately 1:37 a.m., the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the 100 block of Bunche Boulevard for a report of a vehicle crash involving a residence.
Upon arrival, officers located an unoccupied silver Dodge Charger that had struck a residence and a parked vehicle along Bunche Boulevard. Officers identified the driver as 34-year-old Shayron Barksdale of Middletown and subsequently located and arrested him in the 400 block of Carver Drive. Following the arrest, officers observed Barksdale exhibiting multiple signs of intoxication.
The investigation revealed that after the crash into the residence, Barksdale was approached by concerned citizens attempting to check on his well-being. At that time, Barksdale produced a handgun and threatened to shoot them before fleeing the scene.
Due to the circumstances of the incident, OFC. Currinder and his partner, K9 Indy, responded to assist with a search of the area. During the search, K9 Indy located a loaded handgun in the backyard of a residence in the 400 block of Carver Drive, in the area where Barksdale was last seen fleeing.
Further investigation determined that the force of the crash caused bricks from the residence to dislodge and strike a sleeping occupant inside the home, resulting in minor injuries. Bricks also narrowly missed a crib containing a sleeping infant, placing the child at significant risk.
