Crime Alert: County Police Investigate Shed Burglaries

The New Castle County Police, Criminal Investigation Unit, is currently investigating burglaries to sheds/out buildings in communities located in northern New Castle County.

(Wilmington, Del.-19810)  The New Castle County Police are experiencing shed burglaries in the communities of Dartmouth Woods, Brandon, Kimberly Chase, Brandywood, Winterset Farms, McDaniel Crest, Shipley Chase, Fairfax, South Graylyn Crest and Oak Lane Manor.

Residents are reminded to lock or secure sheds and mark the property inside to deter burglars.

Here are a few tips to help secure your property and deter burglars:

  • Install outdoor motion-sensor lighting, as most burglaries occur under the cover of darkness.
  • Utilize a good quality lock to secure your shed.
  • Lock all windows and cover them to stop burglars from observing the contents inside.
  • Mark valuable property, including lawnmowers, power tools, and bicycles with your initials or something that you can easily describe and recognize.
  • Secure items such as lawnmowers and bicycles to a solid fixed point using a quality chain and padlock.
  • Ensure fences and gates to your property are secure and always close them when leaving the area.

The New Castle County Police, Criminal Investigation Unit, is currently investigating a number of burglaries to homes in and around the Greenville area.

(Wilmington, Del.-19807)  The New Castle County Police have responded to seven (7) burglaries in the following locations Centerville Road, Greenspring Road, Valley Green Road, Lands End Road, Overbrook Road, Brook Valley Road and most recently Buck Road.

Residents are reminded to lock all their doors and windows to their homes.  If going away for an extended amount of time, ask a trusted friend or family member to check on your home regularly.  If homeowners have not purchased a residential alarm system, they should strongly consider as an alarm will alert police to any break-ins and deter would be burglars.  As a reminder, Park Smart; lock your vehicles, secure your valuables and take your keys with you.
