Media Alert-New Castle County Police Announce “Nikko” The Facility Dog

The New Castle County Police Department is proud to announce the newest member to our department, Nikko, a facility assistance dog.  Nikko was received through the nonprofit organization, Canine Companions for Independence. The organization enhances the lives of people by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships.

Nikko’s primary role in the department will be to serve as a goodwill ambassador at community service events, meetings, and used to help calm and comfort witnesses, crime victims and anyone who may otherwise be afraid, uncomfortable or nervous. During an intensive two-week training program in Long Island, New York, Nikko was matched with facilitator, Master Corporal Chris Gigliotti, who is currently assigned to our Community Services Unit.

NEW CASTLE COUNTY POLICE ARREST MAN FOR MULTIPLE RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES

 

New Castle County Police arrested 18-year-old Lquan Reddon for breaking into multiple area residences.

(New Castle, DE)  Yesterday (April 17), New Castle County Police were dispatched to the unit block of Birkshire Road, in the community of Oakmont for a report of a man climbing into the window of a residence.

As officers from the New Castle County Police Mobile Enforcement Team and New Castle County Patrol Officers approached the residence they observed a male subject run out of the back door of the residence.  After a brief foot chase, the officers were able to apprehend the subject and later identified him as 18-year-old Lquan Redden.

While being taken into custody, Lquan Redden was found to be in possession of a handgun (later discovered to be stolen) as well as crack cocaine.

Lquan Redden was then transported back to New Castle County Police Headquarters where detectives were able to charge him with residential break-ins in the communities of Oakmont, Mayview Manor, Garfield Park and Holloway Terrace.

Lquan Redden was charged with: seven counts of Burglary to a Dwelling (felony), one count Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, one count Possession of a Stolen Firearm (felony), one count Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (felony), one count of Theft of Prescription Drugs (felony) ,  two counts of Felony Theft, one count of Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor), seven counts of Theft (misdemeanor), two counts of Criminal Mischief (misdemeanor), and one count of Possession of Crack Cocaine (misdemeanor).

Lquan Redden was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and is currently being held at Howard Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $72,000 cash-only bail.

Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Suspect Vehicle In Theft Investigation

New Castle County Police are investigating a theft that occurred in the Carousel Park and Equestrian Center.

(Wilmington, Del.-19808) During the months of January and February, the Equestrian Director for the New Castle County Police Mounted Patrol Unit learned over 700 bags of cedar wood shavings went missing from outside the horse barn which is located within Carousel Park. The wood shavings are used for the horses bedding. New Castle County Patrol officers were dispatched to investigate the theft.

Police were able to obtain surveillance video that captured a suspect vehicle driving in the parkland within the time frame of when the theft occurred.
