POLICE ARREST FOUR FOLLOWING RAMBLETON ACRES SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

(New Castle, Delaware 19720)  New Castle County Police announced today the arrest of four men in Elkton, Maryland who were wanted in connection with a shooting in the New Castle, Delaware development of Rambleton Acres.

On June 13, at approximately 8:04 p.m., officers from the New Castle County Police were dispatched to the intersection of Rambleton Drive and Rambo Terrace for a shooting that had just occurred. Police learned that a 20-year-old male and 19-year-old female were both shot and transported to an area hospital by emergency medical services. Both have since been treated and released from an area hospital.

Detectives worked tirelessly alongside members of the local community and other police agencies.  Through their combined efforts, local surveillance footage was obtained and four suspects were later identified by detectives with the Elkton Police Department (MD).

Further investigation revealed that four suspects were responsible for the shooting.  They were identified as 20-year-old Daquan Hammond, 20-year-old Evan Dayton, 23-year-old Jarryd Blankenbiller and 21-year-old George Lomas.  With the assistance of the Maryland State Police, Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, and Elkton Police Department all four subjects were taken into custody in Maryland on June 19.

NCCPD detectives, with the assistance of investigators from the aforementioned agencies, executed several search warrants at Elkton area residences and motels– seizing multiple firearms and evidence linking the defendants to the shooting.

On June 20, all four subjects were transported from Maryland to New Castle County Police Headquarters where they were all charged with:  2 counts of felony Assault 1st degree, 1 count of felony Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, 1 count of felony Reckless Endangering 1st degree, and felony Conspiracy 2nd degree.  All four were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and are currently being held at Howard Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $188,000 cash bail.

New Castle County Police Chief, Colonel Vaughn M. Bond, Jr. cited this case as a textbook example of citizen/police cooperation.  “As we say all the time, police cannot solve crimes by ourselves.  This is what can happen when the police and community work together to get criminals off the streets.  This type of cooperation will produce these results every time if we simply trust one another.”

POLICE SEEK PUBLIC’S ASSISTANCE IN THE BELVEDERE HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

(Wilmington, 19804) On June 17 at 1:27 am, officers from the New Castle County Police were dispatched to a shooting which had occurred on the unit block of Lloyd Street.   When the units arrived, they discovered one injured 15-year-old female victim inside of a vehicle and a 35-year-old second victim was located a short distance away. Both of the subjects had apparent gunshot wounds and were later pronounced deceased by New Castle County Paramedics.

The New Castle County Police have identified the victims as 15-year-old Doris E. Dorsey and 35-year–old Vincent DiMenco.

Detectives from the New Castle County Police Homicide Squad have also confirmed that Doris E. Dorsey was the homeowner’s daughter and Vincent DiMenco was a friend and coworker of Doris’ father.

Doris, a recent graduate of Stanton Middle School, was seated in a vehicle in the driveway and Vincent was seated in the front yard talking with Doris’ father.  Then an unknown subject walked up to the residence and started shooting.  Doris’ father was able to run away. However, Doris and Vincent were both shot and killed.  The subject then ran off in an unknown direction.

Detectives also discovered that Doris was in the area of North Market Street with friends during the day and evening hours.  She had come home to celebrate her father’s birthday.

Detectives do not believe that this homicide is related to any other incidents in the area.

Colonel Vaughn Bond stated, “I want the person to know that we will be persistent in our efforts to identify you so that you are held accountable for your actions. How can you live with the fact that you killed a defenseless man and a 15-year-old child? Our investigators have worked non stop and will continue to do so. They will pursue every lead and the community will continue to provide assistance until you are apprehended. To those that have knowledge of this despicable act and refuse to share it with police, I will simply say that tomorrow it could be your loved one.  It’s time to stop empowering those who are responsible for senseless acts of violence that have destroyed families throughout our state. It’s time for all of us to step up and do our part to clean up our communities.”

Detectives are asking for anyone who was in contact with Doris or Vincent on Saturday to contact Det. E. Reid at 302-395-8110 or by e-mail at EJReid @nccde.org or by calling New Castle County Police non-emergency number at 302-573-2800.
