NEW CASTLE COUNTY POLICE MOUNTED UNIT RECEIVE MULTIPLE AWARDS

(Bowie, Maryland)  This past weekend (October 11-13) the New Castle County Division of Police Mounted Patrol Unit attended the North American Police Equestrian Council Training Competition in Bowie, MD.
The North American Police Equestrian Council (NAPEC) has created this prestigious training event to show police management that time spent on training was a benefit to their departments.  Promoting the use of the mount on patrol, this training demonstrates the different tasks that can be accomplished when the horse and rider build a capable partnership.
In keeping with this concept, 70 officers from across the country and Canada attended the training.  After the training sessions, the competition portion of the event began.  The officers competed in three Classes – The Police Officer and Mount Inspection, The Expert Equitation Class, and Police Obstacle Course.
Trophies and ribbons were awarded to the top ten finishers in each class.  The New Castle County Division of Police Mounted Patrol Unit placed in the competition.

MEDIA EVENT: REOPENING OF THE GIRLS ONLY ROOM AT THE GARFIELD PAL

WHEN: Thursday, October 10th at 4:30 p.m.

WHERE: Garfield Park PAL, 26 Karlyn Drive, New Castle, Delaware.

WHAT:    Officers from The New Castle County Division of Police Community Response Team discovered that the “Girls Only Room” at the Garfield PAL was in need of improvement.

The room is designed for girls 8-15 years of age to have a place within the PAL to sit and converse.  After the officers interviewed some of the female members of the PAL, they learned that the girls didn’t use this room because it was “boring” and they “had nothing to do in there”.

In hopes of keeping the young ladies interested in the PAL, the officers started remodeling the room.  They sought out and received donations of materials from local businesses and a grant from New Castle County Government.   The officer’s efforts are complete and will be presented to the female members of the PAL on October 10th.

SCHEDULED TO ATTEND: New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer, New Castle County Division of Police Colonel Vaughn M. Bond, Jr and both officers responsible will be made available for questions and photos.
