UPDATE WITH ARREST: POLICE INVESTIGATE HOMICIDE IN MANSION PARK TOWNHOUSES

(New Castle, DE 19720) Last Friday (Sept 24), at approximately 8:30 p.m., patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to an assault that had just occurred on the 200 block of Mansion Parkway, in the community of Mansion Park Townhouses.

When the units arrived, they found 58-year-old. Anthony Lyons suffering from multiple contusions and major blunt force trauma to the head area.  Medics responded and the victim was transported to a local area hospital where he was admitted  in critical condition.

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation.  

During the investigation, detectives were able to list 58-year-old, James Jones as the suspect in the assault.

Saturday evening (Sept 25) the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Last night (Sept 27), detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit Special Investigations Squad were conducting surveillance at Jones’ residence in the City of Wilmington when they observed Jones leaving.  The detectives were then able to apprehend him and transport him to New Castle County Police headquarters.

There Jones was charged with one count of felony Murder 2nd and arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $300,000 cash bail.

POLICE ARREST PORTER SQUARE MAN FOR OPERATING AN ATV

(Bear, DE 19701) Last Tuesday (Sept 21), patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the area of Westbridge Road in the community of Porter Square for the report of a subject riding an ATV on the roadway and harassing neighbors.

Multiple members of the community were contacted, and the owner of the ATV was identified as 35-year-old, Darrell Silva. The officers also obtained sufficient evidence to swear to an arrest warrant in addition to a search warrant for Silva’s residence.  From the search warrant, an ATV was located in Silva’s garage and subsequently impounded.

Silva was also taken into custody and transported to police headquarters.  There he was charged with one count of misdemeanor Harassment, one count of misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct and two traffic violations Operating an Unregistered Off-Highway Vehicle, and Illegal Operation of an Off-Highway Vehicle.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $602 unsecured bail.

 The New Castle County Division of Police reminds residents that Delaware law prohibits the operation of OHVs/ATVs on public roadways, sidewalks, private property (without the consent of the property owner), or right-of-way locations within the State of Delaware. The only exception to this law is during special events, which require permits from the governmental body having jurisdiction over the area.
