The New Castle County Police have charged Jonathan Jackson, 24, from the unit block of Latham Lane (Prides Crossing Apartments) in Newark with drug and weapon related offenses after police responded to shots fired in the area.
(Newark, Del.-19713) During the early morning hours of Sunday (1/22), officers were dispatched to Prides Crossing Apartments after numerous calls for shots fired. Officers arrived on scene and immediately began searching the area on foot. While on scene, officers observed Jackson exit a vehicle and made contact with him asking if he heard any shots. While talking to Jackson, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana. A search of the vehicle he exited revealed a loaded black handgun sitting on the floor of the car.
A search of the access road behind the old MBNA building revealed shell casings in the roadway. An extensive search of Jackson’s vehicle revealed a magazine with ammunition, 30 grams of marijuana, suspected drug proceeds and drug paraphernalia.
Jonathan Jackson was charged with discharging a weapon on a roadway, possession of marijuana other than personal use, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $6,350 secured bail.
