New Castle County Police have arrested 32-year-old Jerry Blankenship in connection with the death of 25-year-old Jaclyn Engman which occurred in the community of The Vinings.
(Newark, Del. – 19702) On Thursday (Jan. 26) at about 6:30a.m., County Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Vinings way for a suspicious death. Upon arrival, officers located the deceased victim, Jaclyn Engman, suffering a gunshot wound.
During that time, Jerry Blankenship turned himself in at New Castle County Police Headquarters. He was detained without incident while police conducted an investigation.
Major Crimes Squad detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Detectives conducted searches of the scene as well as Jerry Blankenship’s residence in the 600 block of South Harmony Rd (Newark). Through the investigation, detectives recovered evidence implicating Jerry Blankenship in Jaclyn Engman’s death.
Jerry Blankenship was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned and committed to Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $1,060,000.00 cash-only bail.
