County Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash

The New Castle County Police, Traffic Services Unit, continues its investigation of a fatal crash that occurred Saturday afternoon in the unit block of Clinton Street in Delaware City.

(Delaware City, Del.-19706) The County Traffic Services Unit responded to Delaware City at the request of Chief David Baylor to conduct an investigation into a crash that occurred on Clinton Street.

The investigation revealed a 49-year-old male and a 48-year-old female were operating a 2010 Harley Davidson Motorcycle when it struck a Volkswagen sedan traveling eastbound on Clinton Street.

A witness reported observing the female operator in the front seat of the motorcycle with the male seated behind her as both had their hands on the handle bars.  The motorcycle made a wide right turn off of Delaware Avenue and onto Clinton Street before traveling into the path of the Volkswagen.  The operator of the Volkswagen stopped in her lane just before the motorcycle struck the front of her vehicle.

Both operators of the motorcycle were ejected and struck the windshield of the Volkswagen and then thrown approximately 20 feet on the roadway.

The motorcycle operators were not wearing helmets and sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. They were both airlifted to the Christiana Medical Center.

The male operator, William Bradley, IV, died as a result of his injuries on Sunday afternoon at approximately 12:45 p.m.  The female operator is currently listed in serious but stable condition.

The County Traffic Services Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.  Alcohol is being considered a factor in this crash.

Police Conduct Four Separate Death Investigations, Heroin Common Factor

New Castle County Police are conducting four separate death investigations involving heroin.

Today (Mar 26) between 8:00 a.m. and 1:05 p.m., County Police responded to four separate incidents where a person was deceased and evidence of heroin use was recovered.  The incidents occurred in the Wilmington, Newark and Claymont areas.  The cause of death for each individual has yet to be determined by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science.

“This is concerning and something we’ve seen before with Fentanyl or other bad batches of heroin,” said Lieutenant Colonel Vaughn Bond Jr, Interim Chief of Police.  “While the causes of death have yet to be determined, at this point in the investigation heroin seems to be a common factor. This is a stark reminder that the drug dealers don’t care what they lace the heroin with and couldn’t care less about the addicted person’s life- drug dealers simply see drug users as a means of making money.”

If you or someone you know has an addiction problem and wants help, New Castle County Police has the Hero Help initiative.   Hero Help is a collaboration of the Police, Delaware Department of Justice and state Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health to provide drug and/or alcohol addiction treatment to qualifying adults who contact police and ask for treatment. Individuals can come to the Corporal Paul J. Sweeney Public Safety Building at 3601 N. DuPont Highway New Castle, Del. 19720 to request further information and inquire if they are eligible. Citizens can also call (302)395-8050.
To be eligible for the program, you must be a Delaware resident 18-years-old or older, have no violent criminal convictions, and voluntarily enroll in the program.
