Crime Alert: Police Investigate Thefts Involving The Letgo Application

New Castle County Police are currently investigating two, independent thefts where victim’s used the Letgo cell phone Application to sell personal property.

(New Castle, Del. 19720) On Wednesday (January 24) at approximately 5:30 p.m. New Castle County Police were dispatched to the community of Mayview Manor for the report of a theft. Police learned that the 41 year-old victim was selling a dirtbike and advertised the sale using the Letgo Application.  He agreed to meet the seller in the parking lot of the Rosehill Community Center, at which time the seller drove off with the dirtbike during the test drive.

On Sunday (January 28) New Castle County Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Gladstone Way for the report of a theft in progress. Police learned that the 16 year-old victim had made arrangements to purchase a new iphone using the Letgo Application. When the seller of the iphone met up with the victim, he kept the phone , took $130.00 from him and fled the area on foot.

Police are advising the public to follow these tips when using online applications to sell or purchase merchandise.  Insist on meeting in a public place during the day or in a well lit area that has cameras, do not meet anyone alone, do not meet at your residence, do not meet at a secondary location or deviate from the original plan and if the deal is too good to be true, it probably is.

Vehicle Stop Yields Stolen Firearm, Police Arrest One

New Castle County Police have arrested 18 year-old Mayhew Watson for a weapons offense in the community of Llangollen.

(New Castle, Del. 19720) yesterday (January 25) The New Castle County Police Mobile Enforcement Team were operating in the area of the Castlebrook Apartment Complex and observed a tan Honda conduct a traffic violation.

Officers stopped the vehicle for the infraction and upon approach, detected evidence of illegal drugs. Mayhew Watson of the unit block of Liborio La, was found to be in possession of a stolen firearm. He was taken into custody without incident.

Mayhew Watson was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, receiving a stolen firearm, breach of bond during commitment-ordered not to possess a firearm, possession of firearm by a person prohibited-prior felony conviction. He was arraigned and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute after failing to pay $25,000.00 cash bail.

Police Investigate Shooting In Edgemoor Terrace

New Castle County Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the community of Edgemoor Terrace.

(Wilmington, Del. 19809) yesterday (January 25) at approximately 11:46 p.m., New Castle County Patrol officers were dispatched to the unit block of W Salisbury Dr for the report of a carjacking. When officers arrived on scene, they learned that a 20 year-old female had been shot in the arm.

The female was taken to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives from the New Castle County Police Criminal Investigation Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
