POLICE INVESTIGATE HOMICIDE IN BRANDYWINE APARTMENTS

(Wilmington, DE 19810) Yesterday, (January 24) at approximately 6:36 p.m., Patrol Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the area of Jacqueline Drive in the community of Brandywine Apartments for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived on the scene, they located an unresponsive male juvenile with an apparent gunshot wound.  Officers initiated life-saving efforts on the juvenile and he was later transported to an area hospital by emergency medical services. The victim ultimately succumbed to his injury. The juvenile was later positively identified as 17-year-old Dametrius Benson of the 200 Block of 8th Avenue in Wilmington.

Detectives from the New Castle County Police Criminal Investigations Unit later arrived on scene and have assumed the investigation. There is no suspect information at this time.
