(Bear, DE 19701) Yesterday, (Dec 16th) patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the area of Wellspring Drive in the community of Kensington for the report of a motor vehicle accident.
When the officers arrived on scene, they learned that a vehicle was driven off of the roadway, struck a mailbox, and then struck a lamp post. The vehicle continued and came to a rest as it wedged itself between a parked vehicle on the street and a second vehicle that was parked in a driveway.
The officers were then able to locate the driver, 43-year-old Thomas Idris. During an interview with the officers at the scene, it became apparent that he was under the influence of an unknown substance.
After being medically treated, Idris was arrested and charged with: one count of felony 7th offense DUI after 6 prior offenses, one count of felony Breach of Conditions of Bond, one count of misdemeanor Malicious Mischief by Motor Vehicle and one count of Civil Violation Possession of Marijuana. He was also charged with the following traffic offenses: Driving While Suspended or Revoked, Reckless Driving Alcohol Related, Diving on the Wrong Side of the Roadway and Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession.
He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $35,200 secured bail.
