CAR STOP YIELDS ILLEGAL DRUGS AND A FIREARM

(Claymont, DE 19703) Last night (Oct 5), officers from the New Castle County Division of Police Mobile Enforcement Team were patrolling the areas in and around the community of Overlook Colony.  At approximately 8:45 p.m., officers observed a black Dodge Dart, with illegal window tint, traveling on Harvey Road. A vehicle stop was conducted and 19-year-old, Chris Ferrer of the City of Wilmington was identified as the driver.

 After interviewing Ferrer, the officers learned that he did not have a valid driver’s license or insurance for the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that Ferrer was a local fugitive and a search of the vehicle yielded a loaded .380 caliber handgun with an obliterated serial number.  The officers were also able to seize 122.93 grams of marijuana packaged for sale, and a digital scale from inside of the vehicle.  Ferrer was taken into custody and transported to NCCPD Headquarters.

Ferrer was charged with one count of felony Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a felony,  one count of felony Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, one count of felony Possession of a Weapon with a Removed, Obliterated Serial Number, one count of felony Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Firearm), one count of felony Possession of a Firearm Prohibited with a Controlled Substance,  Driving without a License, Failure to have Insurance Investigation, and Operating a Motor Vehicle with Improper Window Tinting.

He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $28,601 cash only bail.
