(Wilmington, DE 19810) Earlier this morning (June 30), at approximately 9:08 a.m. patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the intersection of Darley Road and Ravine Road.  As they were being dispatched the officers were made aware the one of the vehicles involved in the crash was an ambulance from the Claymont Fire Company.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they observed that the ambulance collided with a vehicle that was entering Darley off of Ravine Road. First aid was administered to the 85-year-old female driver of the vehicle however she was pronounced dead at the scene.  The two occupants of the ambulance were taken to local area hospitals for minor injuries and were subsequently treated and released.

The New Castle County Division of Police Traffic Services Unit arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation.  Their investigation revealed that the ambulance was traveling south bound on Darley Road with its emergency equipment activated when it collided with the vehicle pulling onto Darley from Ravine Road.
