POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN MAYVIEW MANOR HOMICIDE

(New Castle, De 19720) Yesterday (July 11), at approximately 12:25 p.m. patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to Sixth Street in the community of Mayview Manor for a report of a stabbing.  Upon arrival the 33-year-old male victim, Matthew Hessey was located on the front step area of the residence suffering from an apparent stab wound to the torso.

 Matthew was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after. 

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation.  The detectives were able to develop a 17-year-old male as a suspect.  The juvenile is the boyfriend of Matthew’s girlfriend’s daughter. 

Detectives from the Special Investigations Unit were able to locate the suspect at his residence and take him into custody without incident. 

The juvenile was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with one count of felony Murder First Degree, one count of felony Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, and one count of felony Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited.  He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $1 million dollars cash bail.

“My thoughts are with the family during this tragic and very difficult time.” stated Colonel Joseph Bloch, Chief of Police, “I would also like to commend our Criminal Investigation Unit for gathering enough evidence to take the suspect into custody so quickly, bringing some sense of closure to the family.”
