(Newark, De 19711) Yesterday (July 20), at approximately 7:38 p.m., officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the unit block of Worral Dr, in the community of Deacons Walk for the report of a drowning.
When the officers arrived New Castle County Paramedics and members from Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company were already on the scene and had removed the 37-old victim from the pool. The paramedics were able to revive the victim and he was subsequently transported to a local area hospital for treatment. He has since been admitted to this hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed that the victim was not a strong swimmer and was in the pool relaxing after work. The detectives concluded this to be an unfortunate series of events however no foul play is suspected.
The Division insists that you take the following safety measures when either you or your child is going to be around any bodies of water.
Keep a phone at the poolside so that you never have to leave the pool to answer the phone, and can call for help if needed.
Keep a life-saving ring, shepherd’s hook, and CPR instructions mounted at the poolside.
Also, citizens should learn CPR and rescue breathing. Additionally, if a child is missing, always check the pool first. Seconds count.
