POLICE SEEK PUBLIC ASSISTANCE IN IDENTIFYING BURGLARY SUSPECTS

(New Castle, DE 19720) On June 29th, 2022, patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the unit block of Memorial Dr, in the community of Garfield Park for the report of a burglary that had just occurred. When the officers arrived, they learned from the homeowner that he was awakened by a loud crash when he got up to investigate, he saw a dark shadowy figure trying to climb into his residence.  The victim yelled at the suspect and the suspect backed out of the window and fled.

 Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigation Unit Property Squad assumed the investigation and learned that earlier that evening a suspect matching this description had entered a vacant residence on Memorial Drive and removed items.  This same suspect then went to a daycare on Halcyon Drive.  This suspect entered the daycare, removed items, and left.  This suspect then went to the residence on Memorial Drive and was scared away.  The same suspect returned to the daycare on Halcyon, reentered all the while carrying a large fan.

This suspect was last seen in the area of the Budget Inn on Route 9.

The detectives were able to obtain these photographs of the suspect(s) and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the person or persons in these pictures.

POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN MAYVIEW MANOR HOMICIDE

(New Castle, De 19720) Yesterday (July 11), at approximately 12:25 p.m. patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to Sixth Street in the community of Mayview Manor for a report of a stabbing.  Upon arrival the 33-year-old male victim, Matthew Hessey was located on the front step area of the residence suffering from an apparent stab wound to the torso.

 Matthew was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after. 

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation.  The detectives were able to develop a 17-year-old male as a suspect.  The juvenile is the boyfriend of Matthew’s girlfriend’s daughter. 

Detectives from the Special Investigations Unit were able to locate the suspect at his residence and take him into custody without incident. 

The juvenile was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with one count of felony Murder First Degree, one count of felony Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, and one count of felony Possession of Ammunition by a Person Prohibited.  He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $1 million dollars cash bail.

“My thoughts are with the family during this tragic and very difficult time.” stated Colonel Joseph Bloch, Chief of Police, “I would also like to commend our Criminal Investigation Unit for gathering enough evidence to take the suspect into custody so quickly, bringing some sense of closure to the family.”

GOLD ALERT ISSUED FOR MISSING NEWARK BOY, COREY BROWN.

The New Castle County Police Department is searching for 13-year-old Corey Brown.

(Newark, DE 19702) On July 2022, patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the unit block of Sandburg Place, in the community of Christiana Reserve for a report of a missing person.

When the officers arrived, they learned that 13-year-old Corey Brown had left the residence on foot and has a medical condition that caused a concern for his welfare.

Corey is a black male, 5’ 9”, 130lbs. with brown eyes and black hair in a flat top style cut.   He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and black sneakers.
