Property Check of Parkland Leads to Felony DUI Arrest

(Newark, Del.)  The New Castle County Police have charged Jemar Williams, 42, of New York with driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, his fourth offense.

On Tuesday (8/30), at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers were conducting a property check of Glasgow Park when they observed a white Nissan SUV in the park after sunset.  Officers contacted the driver, later identified as Jemar Williams, and noted that he exhibited signs of impairment.

A series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted, and a search of the vehicle yielded a mixed alcoholic beverage in a Styrofoam cup and a partially empty bottle of alcohol.

Officers conducted an inquiry and learned Jemar was on Parole out of the state of New York and had three prior DUI convictions, also from the state of New York.

Jemar Williams was charged with 4th offense driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol (felony), occupying a county park after sunset and possession of alcohol in a county park.    

Jemar was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and then remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $5,002 cash bail.
