COLONEL JOSEPH BLOCH PROMOTES TWO OFFICERS TO THE RANK OF SERGEANT

Today (October 12, 2022), Colonel Joseph Bloch promoted Corporal Bancroft Cunningham and Corporal Nicholas Beinke to the rank of Sergeant.

Sergeant Cunningham joined the New Castle County Division of Police in 2006 and has been assigned to the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Unit, Mobile Enforcement Team, and Drug Control Squad.  

Sergeant Beinke joined the New Castle County Division of Police in 2011 and has been assigned to the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Unit, and Drug Control Squad.   A formal promotional ceremony will be scheduled in the near future.

TRAFFIC SERVICES UNIT INVESTIGATES DEPARTMENTAL MOTOR VEHICLE CRASH IN NEWARK

(Newark, DE 19702) A 7-year veteran of the New Castle County Division of Police was transported to Christiana Medical Center following a motor vehicle collision in Newark.

On Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at 5:00 PM a 62-year-old female was driving a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek southbound on Salem Church Road near the intersection of McFarland Drive. While driving, the operator crossed over into oncoming traffic and struck a NCCPD marked 2022 Ford Explorer that was traveling northbound. Both the officer and the female operator were transported to Christiana Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

The New Castle County Division of Police Traffic Services Unit responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING – RED MILL FARMS

(Newark, DE 19711) Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit are currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the community of Red Mill Farms. On Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 2:30 PM officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the unit block of Andries Road in reference to a shooting that just occurred. Prior to officers arriving it was broadcasted that the victim had been transported to Christiana Hospital emergency room by a private vehicle. Officers responded to the hospital and located a 22-year-old male victim who sustained a gunshot wound to his hand. The victim reported he was driving in the area at which point his car was shot multiple times. The victim was shot one time during the incident and remains in stable condition.

While investigating the shooting officers were made aware of a separate incident that occurred at Newark High School. It was reported on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 01:08 PM Newark Police School Resource Officers were investigating a person with a gun at Newark High School. It was determined that the suspect from that incident fled from the school and responded to a home in the Red Mill Farms community. The suspect was apprehended and identified as a 16-year-old male from Newark. The suspect was transported to Newark Police Headquarters and charged for his role in the incident at Newark High School. Investigation revealed he was not responsible for the shooting in Red Mill Farms. Any inquiries related to the incident at Newark High School can be directed to the Newark Police Department.

At this point, the suspect in the shooting incident in Red Mill Farms is still unknown.
