Police Arrest Teen, Charged with Attempted Murder

The New Castle County Division of Police, Criminal Investigations Unit has arrested a 13-year-old Newark teen and charged him with attempted murder.

(Newark, Del.19702) On Monday (11/20) at approximately 8:00 p.m., New Castle County Police were dispatched to the unit block of Geneva Court (Iron Hill Apartments) for the report of a person screaming. The witness reported observing two males fighting and called 9-1-1 to report the incident. 

Officers arrived on scene and forced entry into the apartment to render aid to the sole occupant of the apartment, a 44-year-old male victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to the upper body. 

The victim was transported to Christiana Medical Center where he underwent life-saving surgery; and is listed in stable condition. 

Detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

The 13-year-old subject was taken into custody after returning to the scene of the crime and was transported to the hospital due to an injury.  He has since been charged with the following:

  • Attempted murder in the first degree
  • Possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony

The teen is currently awaiting arraignment in Family Court.
