NEWARK MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING INVESTIGATION INTO MULTIPLE ARMED ROBBERIES

(Newark, DE 19702) Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police have charged 18-year-old Brycent Abbott of Newark following an investigation into multiple armed robberies. On Friday, September 29, 2023, at 5:25 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 10 block of Williams Court in Woodland Trails in reference to a robbery that just occurred. Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim. The victim reported she was approached by a black male wearing a black ski mask, armed with a handgun, and demanded her property, before fleeing the area.

On Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 2:29 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 8500 block of Rembrandt Circle in reference to a robbery that just occurred. Officers arrived at the scene and contacted the victim who reported a black male wearing a black ski mask, armed with a black handgun, demanded his money. The suspect fled the area prior to police arriving.

On Friday, March 22, 2024, at 6:52 p.m., patrol officers responded to the area of Smalleys Dam Road and Taylor Drive in Newark, in reference to a robbery that just occurred. Officers arrived at the scene and located the victim. She reported that a male approached her from behind, pressed the handgun to her back, told her to keep her eyes closed, and demanded money before fleeing the area.

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 10 block of Defoe Circle in Woodland Trails, in reference to a robbery that just occurred. Upon arrival, officers contacted the victim, and she reported that a male wearing a ski mask, armed with a handgun demanded her purse.

Following a lengthy investigation, Detectives were able to identify the suspect as 18-year-old Brycent Abbott of Newark. On Thursday, April 25, 2024, Brycent was apprehended, and a search warrant was conducted at his residence. Detectives located a black .43 cal paintball gun, which resembles a handgun.

Brycent was transported to the New Castle County Police Headquarters. Brycent was charged with:

• One misdemeanor count of terroristic threatening

• Three felony counts of Wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony.

• Four felony counts of aggravated menacing.

• Four felony counts of Robbery first degree.

Brycent was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and bail was set at $185,000 cash. He was later committed to Howard R Young Correctional Institution.
