HIT & RUN INVOLVING NCCPD POLICE TAHOE RESULTS IN 11th OFFENSE DUI ARREST

(Middletown, DE 19709) Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police have arrested 53-year-old James Thorpe of Middletown on charges related to his 11th DUI offense.

On Sunday, November 24, 2024, at approximately 3:27 p.m., a Patrol Officer was stopped at a red light on Bayview Road at Route 13 when a red Dodge Ram rear-ended the Officer’s Tahoe. The driver, later identified as James Thorpe, then reversed his vehicle and fled the scene, heading northbound on Route 13. The Officer followed Thorpe, who continued disregarding stop signals and entered the Wawa parking lot at Boyd’s Corner. The Officer apprehended Thorpe there and immediately observed signs of impairment. A background check revealed Thorpe had nine prior DUI convictions. Fortunately, the Officer involved in the incident was not injured.

James Thorpe was then transported to New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • One felony count of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol
  • One felony count of disregarding a police officer signal.
  • One felony count of noncompliance with conditions of recognizance bond or conditions
  • One misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of a property collision accident
  • One misdemeanor count of driving while suspended or revoked.
  • One traffic violation of limitations on turning around.
  • One traffic violation of failure to signal continuously.

James Thorpe was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to pay $36,200 cash bail.

Drug Investigation Results in Arrest and Seizure in Wilmington

(Wilmington, De. 19801) Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Mobile Enforcement Team have charged 25-year-old Akim Gordon of Wilmington following a drug investigation.  In October 2024, an investigation was opened into the sale of narcotics being sold throughout New Castle County. Through investigative methods, officers identified Akim Gordon as the suspect in the drug distribution.

On Thursday, November 21, 2024, the New Castle County SWAT team carried out simultaneous search warrants at a residence in the 200 block of North Ford Avenue and another in the 800 block of West 9th Street in Wilmington. Akim Gordon was taken into custody at the West 9th Street location. The investigation resulted in the seizure of 22.23 grams of heroin, 2.37 grams of crack cocaine, packaging materials, a digital scale commonly used in drug distribution, and a handgun reportedly stolen from Atlanta, GA.

Akim Gordon was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • One felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, Tier 3.
  • One felony count of possession of a controlled substance, Tier 3.
  • One felony count of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.
  • One felony count of receiving a stolen firearm.
  • One felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
  • Four misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child
  • One misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Akim Gordon was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to pay $157,100 cash bail.
