SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER THREATENING AND ASSAULTING NEW CASTLE COUNTY CROSSING GUARD

(New Castle, DE 19720) On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 8:25 a.m., patrol units were dispatched to the intersection of Halcyon Drive and Chase Avenue in the community of Garfield Park for a reported assault on a crossing guard.  Patrol units arrived and learned that the 75-year-old crossing guard was threatened and physically assaulted by an unknown male while attempting to direct traffic.

Patrol officers obtained video surveillance of the incident and identified the male as 25-year-old Darjuan Saleem-Connor of Wilmington through investigative measures. Darjuan was taken into custody at his residence and transported to the New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with the following:

  • Terroristic Threatening 62 Years or Older
  • Offensive Touching
  • Menacing
  • Failure to Obey an Authorized Person Directing Traffic

Darjuan was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $700 unsecured bail.
