DETECTIVES ARREST TWO FOLLOWING SHOOTING IN SIMONDS GARDENS

(New Castle, DE 19707) On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at about 12:29 p.m., patrol officers responded to the unit block of Cahalan Road after multiple reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found several vehicles hit by gunfire and innocent bystanders nearby.

Detectives from the Division’s Criminal Investigation Unit, Major Crimes Squad, and Evidence Detection Squad were notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation.

Detectives identified 22-year-old Ian Berbick of New Castle as a suspect during their investigation. On Friday, September 26, with support from the Special Investigations Unit and SWAT, Ian Berbick was taken into custody. While executing a search warrant related to Ian, Detectives found evidence that resulted in firearm charges against 21-year-old Ryan Berbick of New Castle. Both men were then transported to the New Castle County Police headquarters.

Detectives charged Ian Berbick with the following:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Assault 2nd Degree
  • 5 Counts of Reckless Endangering in the First Degree
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Receiving a Stolen Firearm

Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 2, Ian Berbick was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $123,000 cash bail.

Detectives charged Ryan Berbick with the following:

  • 3 Counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Receiving a Stolen Firearm

Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 2, Ryan Berbick was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $12,000 cash bail.

ACT TEAM ARRESTS SUSPECT FOLLOWING AGGRAVATED MENACING INVESTIGATION

(Wilmington, DE 19809) On Friday, September 26, 2025, at approximately 9:09 p.m., Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police’s Active Crime Trend (ACT) Team were patrolling the Edgemoor area when they were flagged down near Rysing Drive and E. Salisbury Drive. The victims reported that a male suspect had threatened them with a firearm during a verbal dispute.

Through their investigation, Detectives identified Flor Cruz of Wilmington as the suspect. A search of his home uncovered a silver Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun that, after a database search, was confirmed to be stolen. Flor Cruz was taken into custody and transported to the New Castle County Police headquarters.

Charges for Flor Cruz include:

• Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
• Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
• 2 Counts of Aggravated Menacing
• Receiving a Stolen Firearm

Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Flor Cruz was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $48,000 cash bail.

Police Activity Alert – Glendale Community

(Newark, DE 19702) Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police are currently on scene in the community of Glendale investigating reports of suspects breaking into motor vehicles.

During the investigation, officers were originally dispatched to the unit block of Darwin Road, Newark, in reference to multiple suspects breaking into cars throughout the neighborhood. Officers quickly responded to the area and established a perimeter. After a brief foot pursuit and property check, officers located and detained two suspects. A stolen motor vehicle was also located nearby. Both subjects were transported to NCCPD Headquarters, and charges are currently pending.

At this time, officers believe these suspects may have been active in multiple neighborhoods along the Pulaski Highway corridor overnight.

We’re asking residents in the area to please check any home surveillance cameras (including doorbell footage) and report any attempted or actual thefts that may have occurred.
