(Wilmington, DE 19801) On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at approximately 10:41 p.m., officers with the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the 1500 block of Willis Place in the Cleland Heights community for a report of a fight in progress.
Upon arrival, officers determined that the suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Jamir Garvin of Wilmington, had been involved in a dispute with a 64-year-old male on Willis Place. The investigation revealed that during the altercation, Garvin punched the victim in the face and then stomped on the victim’s head multiple times before fleeing the area.
Officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and rendered aid to the victim, who was suffering from numerous injuries. The victim was transported to Christiana Hospital for further medical treatment and is expected to recover from his injuries.
Once Garvin was identified, officers responded to his residence and took him into custody without incident. Detectives assigned to the Division’s Criminal Investigations Unit subsequently responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
Garvin was later charged with the following offenses:
- One felony count of Assault 1st degree
- One misdemeanor of disorderly conduct.
Garvin was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $25,100.00 cash bail.
