(Newark, DE 19702) On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Officers were dispatched to the unit block of Winding Road in the Norwegian Woods neighborhood for a reported burglary in progress.
Upon arrival, Officers observed two individuals fleeing from the residence and quickly detained both subjects. One individual was later identified as the suspect, 26-year-old Da’Aron Griffin of Middletown, who was found without shoes.
Further investigation revealed that Da’Aron Griffin went to the residence to confront a 30-year-old male victim. During the confrontation, a physical altercation occurred outside the residence. The victim was able to re-enter the home, at which point Da’Aron Griffin began damaging the windshield of a vehicle parked in the driveway.
Da’Aron Griffin then damaged a window and an entry door before entering the residence while armed with two knives. Once inside, Griffin attempted to force entry into a bedroom. During this time, a 65-year-old male inside the residence sustained a laceration to his head while attempting to prevent the bedroom door from being forced open. The injury was determined to be minor.
The 30-year-old victim later fled the residence, with Griffin following him outside. Officers were arriving on scene at that time and quickly detained both individuals pending further investigation. Da’Aron Griffin’s shoe was subsequently located inside the residence from which he fled, and Griffin’s vehicle was located parked on the street nearby.
Da’Aron Griffin was transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with the following offenses:
- Two felony counts of Aggravated Menacing
- One felony count of Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
- One felony count of Burglary in the First Degree
- One felony count of Assault Second Degree
- One misdemeanor count of Theft Under $1,500
- One misdemeanor count of Criminal Mischief over $1000
- One misdemeanor count of Resisting Arrest
- One misdemeanor count of Offensive Touching
- One misdemeanor count of Criminal Mischief under $1000
Da’Aron Griffin was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $145,000.00 cash bail.
