(Claymont, DE 19703) – Beginning in March 2026, Officers with the New Castle County Division of Police responded to multiple addresses within The Edge at Greentree apartment complex regarding several fraud-related complaints.
Victims reported being notified that they had failed to make their monthly rent payments despite having already submitted payment. As officers continued their investigation, they determined that several tenants had paid their rent using money orders. The investigation revealed that 63-year-old Veronica Hicks of Wilmington had allegedly altered the payee information on the money orders, changing it to her own name before cashing them.
The investigation determined that between August 2025 and March 2026, Hicks allegedly stole approximately $5,400 by fraudulently altering and cashing the money orders.
On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Veronica Hicks was taken into custody and charged with:
- One felony count of Forgery 2nd Degree
- One misdemeanor count of Theft Under $1,500
Hicks was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released after posting $5,000 cash bail.
These charges are in addition to charges previously filed by New Castle County Police officers against Hicks in March and May 2026, which include:
- Three felony counts of Forgery Second Degree
- Two misdemeanor counts of Theft Under $1,500
- One felony count of Theft Over $1,500
