2026 Citizens’ Police Academy – Now Accepting Applications!

Are you interested in gaining a firsthand understanding of law enforcement?

The New Castle County Division of Police invites residents to participate in our 2026 Citizens’ Police Academy! This program provides community members with valuable insight into our mission, values, and day-to-day operations.

As part of our commitment to “Excellence in Policing,” this academy offers a unique opportunity to learn about the roles and responsibilities of our officers. Participants will experience a hands-on overview of police training, procedures, and operations while strengthening the partnership between law enforcement and the community.

The New Castle County Division of Police announces funeral arrangements for Detective Christopher N. Skrobot, who passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Family, friends, and the public are invited to join in honoring and remembering the life and legacy of Detective Christopher N. Skrobot on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703.

Due to limited parking and significant attendance, expect intermittent traffic delays and road closures during both events

Detective Skrobot’s burial will be held privately.

SUSPECT ARRESTED ON SEVERAL COUNTS OF INDECENT EXPOSURE AND LEWDNESS

(Bear, DE 19701) The New Castle County Division of Police has arrested 41-year-old John Warhop of Bear in connection with a series of indecent exposure and lewdness incidents.

On Friday, February 6, 2026, at approximately 4:25 p.m., Officers were dispatched to the area of Songsmith Drive and Carvel Lane following reports of a male with his pants down, exposing himself to passing motorists. Witnesses provided a description of the suspect’s clothing, and Officers later located a matching individual near a business on Quintilio Drive.

While Officers spoke with the suspect, another victim came forward, reporting that Warhop had also exposed himself in front of a business in the 400 block of Governors Place. This portion of the investigation was handled by the Delaware State Police.

John Warhop was taken into custody and transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with crimes investigated by both agencies.

•             Three misdemeanor counts of Lewdness

•             Three misdemeanor counts of Indecent Exposure in the Second-Degree

•             One misdemeanor count of Disorderly Conduct

•             One violation of Public Intoxication

John Warhop was arraigned on all charges at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $1,010 cash bail.
