POLICE INVESTIGATE OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING – RAMSEY ROAD

(Wilmington, DE 19803) — On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at approximately 3:50 p.m., officers with the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the unit block of Ramsey Road for a report of shots fired.

Officers arrived on scene and, while investigating, heard gunshots coming from inside the residence. The Division’s Crisis Management Group was activated and responded to the scene. While on location, members of the Crisis Management Group continued hearing gunshots from within the residence.

After several hours, the male subject later exited the residence and encountered officers who discharged their firearms, striking the male. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. In accordance with departmental policy, the New Castle County Division of Police will conduct an internal investigation in coordination with the Delaware Department of Justice Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

POLICE ACTIVITY-RAMSEY ROAD

UPDATE: As of 6:15 p.m., the Division’s Crisis Management Group remains on scene investigating a barricade situation that evolved from an earlier report of shots fired.
Residents can expect a continued police presence in the area, and roads remain closed.

UPDATE: As of 5:15 p.m., the Division’s Crisis Management Group has responded and is on scene. This remains an active investigation. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, as roads remain closed in the area of Ramsey Road.
