MULTIPLE GUNS STOLEN FROM GUN SHOP DURING BURGLARY

(New Castle, DE 19720) On Monday, May 27, 2024, at 1:50 a.m., patrol officers with the New Castle County Division of Police responded to an alarm at Millers Gun Center located on W. Jackson Avenue in New Castle DE, 19720. While officers were enroute, a passerby called 911 to report that they witnessed a flatbed truck backed into the front door of the store. Officers arrived at the store and discovered the store had been broken into, several firearms had been taken and the truck was gone from the area.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit along with investigators of The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

POLICE INVESTIGATION LEADS TO WEAPONS AND DRUG ARREST

(Claymont, DE 19703) During the month of May, Officers from the Division’s Mobile Enforcement Team conducted a drug investigation in the community of Knollwood.

On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, members of the Mobile Enforcement Team, Safe Streets Task Force and SWAT Team executed search warrants at residences in the 30 block of Colby Avenue and the 30 block of Denham Avenue. The search of the Colby Avenue residence yielded methamphetamine, crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, a serrated sword, and a handgun. The search of the residence on Denham Avenue yielded, crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, a 16-gauge shotgun, and a handgun.

This investigation led to the arrests of 46-year-old Kenneth Newell, 44-year-old John Hayward, 26-year-old Chastity Shaw, and 56-year-old James Donaldson.

Kenneth Newell was charged with the following:

•Two counts of Manufacture/Deliver/PWID Controlled Substance

•Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited

•Possession of Firearm During the Commission of a Felony

Newell was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $45,000 secured bail.

John Hayward was charged with the following:

•Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited

Hayward was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $10,000 secured bail.

Chastity Shaw was charged with the following:

•Two counts of Manufacture/Deliver/PWID Controlled Substance

•Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony

•Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited

Shaw was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $37,000 secured bail.

James Donaldson was charged with the following:

•Manufacture/Deliver/PWID Controlled Substance

•Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

•Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony

Donaldson was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $40,500 secured bail.
