What:

Cooking with Cops provides a fun atmosphere to educate the community about cooking as well as making healthier choices.

Cooking with Cops takes children (approximately 12 years old) from the Garfield Park (New Castle) Police Athletic League (PAL) and pairs them with William Penn HS culinary students as well as police officers for a ‘cook-off’ style event.  Leading up to the event, the participants attended four classes where they learned basic culinary practices, became familiar with the kitchen, learned about recipes, shopping, and healthier alternatives to high fat foods.

Cooking with Cops culminates in the cook-off on Feb 16.   Teams will prepare food and serve it to guests as well as a panel of judges- who will decide the winner.  The event plans to offer about 50 tickets for guests to attend, sample food, and vote for their favorite.

Who:

The judges include:

New Castle County Executive Matthew Meyer, Chef Dana Herbert (Desserts by Dana), Executive Chef Ryan Patrick Keegan (Aramark), Chef Robbie Jester (Stone Balloon Ale House).

With:

Presentations by William Penn High School Clubs and Groups, a cooking demonstration by Chef Kip Poole (William Penn High School Culinary Program- and Lead Instructor for Cooking with Cops)
