Monday, (Aug 20) Patrol Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police, the New Castle County Division of Police, Criminal Investigations Unit Property Squad, Special Investigations Squad, and S.W.A.T were able to apprehend 32-year-old Daniel Long as walked through the community of Buckley.
(New Castle, DE 19720) The New Castle County Division of Police, Criminal Investigations Unit, Property Squad was able to link multiple calls for burglaries, thefts from motor vehicles, thefts of motor vehicles, and criminal mischiefs. These incidents started July 24th, 2017 and ended on August 20th of this year.
The stolen property ranged from radios to construction tools and equipment. A majority of the thefts from motor vehicles had evidence of forced entry through a broken vehicle window. The thefts of motor vehicles also had their registration plates switched out and were used by the suspect to commit other thefts from motor vehicles, criminal mischiefs, and even burglaries from open garage doors.
The result of a long and arduous investigation detectives developed 32-year-old, Daniel Long as a suspect and were able to locate and apprehend him.
Daniel Long was specifically charged with 3 counts of Violation of Probation (felony), 1 Burglary 2nd (felony, 11 counts of Burglary 3rd (felony), 1 count Theft of a Motor Vehicle (felony), 1 count of Receiving Stolen Property (felony), 1 count of Theft (felony), 7 Counts of Theft (misdemeanor), 8 counts of Attempted theft (misdemeanor), 1 count of Unlawful Use of a Payment Card (misdemeanor), 1 count of attempted Unlawful Use of a Payment Card (misdemeanor), 14 charges of Criminal Mischief (misdemeanor), 1 count of Trespass 2nd (misdemeanor),
Daniel Long was also charged by the Delaware State Police for a vehicle pursuit that occurred on August 9th. 1 count of Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony), 3 counts of Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign (violation), 1 count of Improper Passing (violation), 1 count of Driving Vehicle at Unreasonable Speed (violation), and 2 counts of Failure to Stop at a Red Light (violation).
He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and is currently being held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $69,000 secured bail.
Additional charges are currently being authored at this time for Daniel Long from the New Castle County Division of Police, Delaware State Police and multiple agencies in New Jersey. A total of over 50 additional charges are anticipated.
A showing of all the recovered stolen property will be conducted at a later date. Victims affected will be contacted.
