(Wilmington, De 19810) Today (Dec 12) at 3:30 p.m. hours officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the intersection of Kingman Drive at Eaton Road in the community of Chalfonte, in reference to a pedestrian who was struck by a motor vehicle.

When the officers arrived at the scene they made contact with the 14-year-old victim.  The officers learned that the bus was stopped with its lights on and the victim ran around the front of the bus and was struck by an oncoming 2010 Toyota Prius. Witnesses stated that the oncoming vehicle had stopped for the school bus but then continued on and struck the victim.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for abrasions to his chest, and leg area.  The victim was later released after the treatment.

The 67-year-old driver of the Prius remained at the scene and was cited with Inattentive Driving and Passing a Stopped School Bus.

The New Castle County Division of Police would like to remind drivers to remain attentive while driving and especially attentive when driving around school buses.
