POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL ACCIDENT ON MEMORIAL DRIVE.

(New Castle, De 19720) Earlier this afternoon (Jan 9), at approximately 3:41 p.m.,  officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the intersection of Memorial Drive and Karlyn Drive for a motor vehicle accident involving a school bus.

Upon arrival, the officers discovered that a school bus with twenty-two students struck a vehicle containing four teenage females.

The driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, a second passenger in the car, a 16-year-old female was transported to a local hospital for serious life-threatening injuries.  Two other 16-year-old female passengers of the vehicle were transported to a local hospital for their non-life-threatening injuries.

The school bus from Eisenberg Elementary School had accounted for all of the children on board and two, 9-year-old boys were transported to a local children’s hospital for their injuries. Both boys were in stable condition at the time of transport.

Investigators from the New Castle County Division of Police Traffic Services Unit arrived on scene and assumed the investigation.

This is an active and ongoing investigation; further information will be released as it becomes available.
