INVESTIGATION UPDATE: POLICE APPREHEND NIGHTTIME BURGLARY SUSPECT

(New Castle, DE 19720) On Friday, May 1st, 2020, detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit arrested 46-year-old Roger Dennis for a felony charge of Burglary 1st, three counts of felony theft, four counts of misdemeanor theft and one count of criminal mischief. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on 17,100 unsecured bail.

On Tuesday, May 5th, the same detectives learned the Dennis had moved from his residence into an area hotel. When they checked with the motel, they were made aware that he had been banned from the establishment for an additional burglary that had occurred on Sunday, May 3rd.

The detectives’ investigation revealed that Dennis had entered a female’s motel room and attempted to steal her identification card.  The female victim was able to push him away and retrieve her ID.  Dennis subsequently fled from the motel.

Yesterday, (May 6), Dennis was apprehended and taken to New Castle County Police Headquarters where he was charged with one count of felony Burglary 1st and one count of misdemeanor Theft.  He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $101,000 cash bail.

“Obviously, the actions of this suspect are very alarming to our community and the police department.” stated Colonel Vaughn M. Bond, Jr  “The cooperation from the community combined with great patrol and investigative work has resulted in the second arrest of this suspect in less than a week.  I am hopeful that our residents will have a sense of relief knowing that this suspect is no longer wandering through our communities seeking an opportunity to victimize others.  Again, we strongly encourage community members to provide information they may have on any unsolved investigations to include shootings and homicides.  Our partnership is necessary if we desire to keep the communities in New Castle County safe for everyone.”
