The New Castle County Division of Police is saddened to announce the passing of retired K9 Aiko.

Born on August 21, 2014, in Slovakia, Aiko joined the Division in 2015 and was partnered with Master Corporal Edwin Mousley. Together, they faithfully served the citizens of New Castle County until Aiko retired from full duty in January 2024.

Throughout his career, Aiko, a German Shepherd, was a dual-purpose K9 trained in both patrol and narcotics detection. He assisted officers with numerous apprehensions and narcotics seizures while serving as a valued member of the Division’s K9 Unit and D-Squad.

Following his retirement, Aiko enjoyed life at home with M/Cpl. Mousley and his family, where he quickly became a beloved family companion.

On Tuesday, September 16, 2026, K9 Aiko peacefully passed away, surrounded by his loved ones.

K9 Aiko will be remembered for his loyal service, dedication, and the special bond he shared with his handler. The Division extends its heartfelt condolences to M/Cpl. Mousley and his family during this difficult time.
