POLICE APPREHEND PORCH PIRATE IN APARTMENT COMPLEX

(Wilmington, DE 19809) Yesterday (Dec 1), patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Prior Rd in the community of Top of the Hill Apartments for the report of a suspicious person.

When the officers arrived at the scene, they learned from a witness that a female was observed taking packages from apartment buildings.  The packages, too large to be placed in the apartment’s mailbox, were identified as being Amazon packages left in front of the apartment doors.

The suspect, later identified as 18-year-old Tearha Lloyd-Green from the City of Wilmington,  was seen by the witness carrying boxes around to the side of the building and was attempting to open them when the witness stopped her.  Lloyd-Green then dropped the packages and ran away.

As the officers were getting the witness’s statements, Lloyd-Green was seen walking from one of the buildings and taken into custody.

She was transported to police headquarters and charged with one count of attempted Theft misdemeanor, and one count of an unrelated Breach of Release.  She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and held in lieu of $1000 secured bail.

The Division would like to remind the members of the community that this is the time of year package thefts increase dramatically.  Here are some tips:

Have your packages sent to your work or someone you know is home during the day.

Require a signature for when your package gets delivered. This can also help ensure it gets delivered to the right address.

Make sure you are tracking your package after you order it and know what day it’s expected to be delivered.

Lastly, turn on any notifications on your phone so you know exactly when it arrives and can have a friend, family or neighbor pick it up.
