(Bear, DE 19701) Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police have arrested Denzel Massengill (26) of Bear in reference to numerous felony investigations. On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. a patrol officer with the New Castle County Division of Police located a stolen Subaru Ascent near the 700 block of Woodchuck Place, Bear – Fox Run Apartments. While on scene the officer observed Denzel Massengill attempting to enter the vehicle. The officer then took Denzel into custody without incident. Denzel was also found to be in possession of the key for the stolen vehicle.
A search of the stolen vehicle was conducted at which time officers located stolen property from numerous thefts throughout New Castle County. Officers also located a stolen Smith and Wesson handgun inside the vehicle.
Through investigative measures and linking stolen property officers were able to connect Denzel to fourteen separate investigations between October 18, 2022, and December 13, 2022. Denzel was charged with:
Two felony counts of theft of a motor vehicle, eleven counts of burglary in the third degree, two felony counts of conspiracy in the second degree, one felony count of theft of a firearm, one felony count of possession/purchase/own/control a firearm/destructive weapon within ten years of a prior conviction, one felony count of receiving stolen property over $1,500.00, one felony count of theft under where a victim is 62 or older, six misdemeanor counts of unlawful use of a payment card, and twelve misdemeanor counts of theft under $1,500.00.
Denzel was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $80,000.00 cash bail.
