(New Castle, DE 19720) The victims and families of our unsolved homicides are not forgotten and there are ongoing efforts by the New Castle County Division of Police and the Criminal Investigation Unit Cold Case Squad, to bring about a resolution to each and every case. To refresh the community’s recollection and investigate every possible lead, we will be posting again the information pertaining to open cases.
On January 24, 2019, at approximately 6:36 p.m., Patrol Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the area of Jacqueline Drive in the community of Brandywine Apartments for a report of shots fired.
When officers arrived on the scene, they located an unresponsive male juvenile with an apparent gunshot wound. Officers initiated life-saving efforts on the juvenile and he was later transported to an area hospital by emergency medical services. The victim ultimately succumbed to his injury. The juvenile was later positively identified as 17-year-old Dametrius Benson of the 200 Block of 8th Avenue in Wilmington.
